Recently, the Greater Mekong Sub-region Economic Cooperation (GMS) came to Vientiane Sai Serta Comprehensive Development Zone (VSCDZ) in Laos for research. The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Laos and relevant persons in charge of Vientiane Sai Serta Comprehensive Development Zone accompanied the research.
The team investigated Jiakel Optoelectronics (Laos) Co., Ltd. on the spot, understood in detail the development history of the development zone, the latest investment construction and investment attraction, and had in-depth exchanges with the person in charge of the development zone. The Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation (GMSEC) was initiated by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 1992, which involves six countries in the basin, namely China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, and aims to promote the economic and social development of the subregion by strengthening the economic ties among the member countries. The delegation said that through this study tour and exchange, it has learned a lot of experiences and practices that are worth learning from, especially the development experience in the development process of special economic zones, and hoped that the next step would be to deepen the economic and trade exchanges between the enterprises of the member countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation, and to promote the development of bilateral and multilateral trade.
Vientiane Sai Serta Comprehensive Development Zone (VSCDZ), a national-level cooperation project signed by the governments of China and Laos, is a national-level special economic zone in Laos and China's only offshore economic and trade cooperation zone in Laos, which has been highly valued and supported by both governments. There are 137 enterprises in the development zone, of which 70 have been completed and put into operation. In 2019, the development zone was officially included as one of the 10 low-carbon demonstration zones carried out by China in developing countries.
